Marching towards the Grand Opening, March 1,2011

Been quite some time since I did any kind of blog. Time for an update. Sprinkler system is installed and Cheryl has been painting the nasty black pipes in order to make them blend in as best as possible.

The sign was installed in late November and looks great. Now to figure out the lighting portion. Would like to come up with something that looks good and is functional. It's not going to be an easy task. However without lighting, I am afraid we will miss out on quite a few stays.

Also, in early December, we were able to recruit some help and got 2 doors installed for the Alna room. Just need to do a couple minor repairs on the jambs, paint them and install the locks. Then the Alna room will be all set!

Photography has been coming along, but slow going due to Cheryl's schedule and the two of us sitting down at the same time to review them. So, this week I will finish reviewing them, so we can complete the website and get the brochure designed and printed.

So on it goes.... mostly odds and ends to get things into place for 3/1/2010. We plan on having an open house about then so local business people can come and view the Inn. Details to come out in early February, as I hope to know my own schedule by then.

Hiking at Dodge Point in Newcastle

This past weekend, we decided to start checking on trails for our customers. Our first trail being Dodge Point in Newcastle, ME. The parking lot is a bit small for the number of people who use the trail, but we found a spot with no issues. We brought Gunther our outdoor loving hound. He has short legs but makes up for it with stamina and enthusiasm.

We decided to walk the main path and then veer off on the shore path, then looping back. I would call this route a beginner path but not so much for the complete novice. There are several hills and plenty of exposed roots and rocks.

My favorite spot was the dock, which was in good condition and clean. I laid down for a bit and took a break from the path to enjoy the inner waterways. We continued on and met some very nice people along the way, also with their dogs. One other note of interest was the hawthorn tree growing in the middle of the woods.... I was excited! Even had full berry display!

Maine Travel and Adventure

Located on Federal Street, The Old Jail was completed in 1812. it served as the primary jail for Lincoln Co. until about 1920. Then it was used for holding cells for prisoners awaiting trial at the courthouse in Wiscasset. One of the most impressive features is the granite blocks used for the construction. Much of the building is done in 41" slabs and the rest in 30" pieces. Murals on the walls drawn by prisoners, give a glimpse ito the lives of the prisoners who stayed there.

In 1954 the building was turned over to the Lincoln County Historical Society to be used as a museum. I personally think it seems like more of a vacation spot with the views of Wiscasset Harbor and the beautiful sweeping property. I imagine fall views of foliage were outstanding!! However, I am not so sure the winters were much fun in a building with no heat!!

The jail has antique shows and other special events as the summer goes on that are worth attending. bring a lunch or picnic and plan some r&r time while you are there. We give this attraction 4 stars out of 5.
